Shawn was laughing harder now. “I told you! It’s like they’re trying to eat anything that moves,” he gasped.

Max grinned. “Their eyesight is terrible. When they see movement, they try to eat it. Even if it’s another toad’s face.”

Auntie Ava arrived later to take Jina and Shawn home. “Next week we’re releasing toad eggs into the wild,” Cecile said. “Want to join us?”

“Yes!” Shawn practically shouted. “Right, Jina?”

“Um, sure,” Jina said, less than thrilled.

“Great! We’ll see you then,” Cecile said.
